We are Sarah Hagi and Helen Vogelsong-Donahue. We used to be able to write whatever we wanted and get paid for it. Between the two of us, we’ve probably written for every digital or print publication you can think of. Half of them don’t exist anymore and good writing feels illusory these days. It’s a problem we’re seeking to solve.

Over the last decade, we’ve both made our careers off taking stories that don’t seem that serious, seriously. You might have read Helen’s deep dive on The logical history of the ‘Zoombinis’ or Sarah’s investigation of a Garfield themed restaurant — two examples of stories we confidently can say nobody else would have explored, and nobody could have done better.

Each week you will see posts ranging from errant and potentially controversial thoughts on timely topics to more in depth and researched culture writing. We are both natural investigators and researchers, and we are dedicated to being right about things.
